Frequently Asked Questions
-
Vitsley Olfactive Studio is a Sydney-based olfactory practice working across bespoke fragrance, olfactory art, scent design, fragrance formulation, spatial scent, multisensory experiences and perfumery education in Sydney and across Asia.
-
Olfactive studios operate across a broader range of disciplines than a traditional perfume house. In addition to bespoke personal fragrance, the studio produces olfactory art, designs scent for live events and brand activations, maps olfactory environments for hospitality venues, and offers structured tutelage in perfumery. Scent is treated as a primary creative material rather than a product category.

We’re based in Sydney, Australia, and work with clients and collaborators here and internationally (mostly in Asia, but happy to go anywhere!). We’ve worked in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul, Kyoto, and Bangkok to name a few! Projects are often developed in the Sydney HQ and executed at a client's location, venue or production site, depending on the nature of the commission or collaboration.
About Vitsley
Bespoke Fragrance & Personal Commissions
-
Of course. We love to compose fragrances that are specific to one person.
The process begins with a private consultation based on the person, the context, and the intention. This is followed by the selection and evaluation of fragrance materials, formulation, refinement and final composition. The formulation is kept on file exclusively for the client.
The timeframe is usually dependent on how the consultation unfolds. Sometimes, we can make your bespoke fragrance during your consultation, whereas other times there needs to be some time taken to modify or refine the fragrance before it can go to its owner. If this is the case, a 2 to 3-week window is the most common timeframe.
-
Yes. Vitsley creates personal fragrances and other scent-based commissions as gifts for birthdays, weddings, significant occasions, and people who can be tricky to find gifts for. The process can be completed by the person commissioning the gift, or as a shared experience involving the recipient. If you would like to pre-purchase a gifted consultation, please use the contact form. Gift commissions are handled with complete discretion.
-
Yes. We can develop and curate scent for private spaces including homes, cars and yachts, as well as selected intimate commercial environments. The approach considers the character, use and atmosphere of the space rather than applying a single generic fragrance throughout. This service is available as a standalone commission or as part of a broader interior/architecture project.
-
The Atelier is for personalised and artistic commissions developed directly with individuals, including bespoke fragrance, private scent experiences such as mini-workshops, gifting, and olfactory art.
The Studio works primarily with commercial and creative clients on projects such as brand scent signatures, spatial scent-scaping, hospitality, sensory live performance and events, private labelling formulation, and olfactory worldbuilding.
Some clients interact with both, depending on the nature of the engagement.
Commercial & Brand Services
-
Yes. Scent can be designed as part of an exhibition, event, activation or performance. Depending on the project, fragrance may provide an ambient environment, identify different spaces, accompany particular moments, or form an integral part of the artistic or narrative direction.
-
Yes. We develop signature scents and olfactory identities for brands, venues and physical environments. The scent can be developed from an existing visual or conceptual identity, or from a broader creative direction established at the beginning of the project.
-
Yes. We offer full property scent mapping and scenography: a considered olfactory architecture across every area of a hotel or venue, including arrival, lobby, corridors, ballroom, outdoor spaces, and liminal areas. Each zone can be treated individually, or it can be a single ambient scent applied throughout. This service is also available at smaller scale for private residences and boutique venues.
-
Yes. Scent is processed by the brain before language, which means it influences mood, focus, and emotional state faster and more directly than most other environmental variables. Designing that influence deliberately is what Vitsley does through its Studio practice. This might mean creating an ambient scent for a boardroom intended to establish a focused, composed atmosphere, or developing a scent environment for a music studio that supports extended creative sessions and the particular atmosphere of vibe-coding or collaborative production. The aim is not to prescribe a particular fragrance as a productivity tool, but to consider scent as one element of the environment alongside sound, lighting, spatial design and the way the space is used.
Art and Creative Collaborations
-
Of course. Like most artists, our founder Nadia Vitlin is open to commissions. Olfactory art exists in many different forms and scent can be infused into and dispersed by many different types of medium. We will be happy to walk you through the process.
-
Founder Nadia Vitlin is privileged to have collaborated with other olfactory artists, visual artists, and curators. We enthusiastically encourage collaboration inquiries from galleries, institutions, and fellow artists.
-
Yes. Fragrance has become more and more popular as an integrated component of exhibitions and installations globally, as it adds a dynamism, dimension, and layering to the experience of art in a space.
-
Yes. We work with scent as a live sensory element alongside music, performance and other forms of live experience. Scent can be introduced at specific points within a performance, associated with particular musical or spatial elements, or used as part of the overall atmosphere of a production. Scent can be synchronised with specific moments in a live performance, used to differentiate spatial zones, or integrated into the full arc of a guest experience from arrival to departure.
Tutelage
-
You can learn the art of perfumery at Vitsley Olfactive Studio, whether you want to try it out in one of our masterclasses, or undertake the course curriculum to become certified. See our Library page for more information on our tutelage options.
-
All classes are one-to-one unless booked as a group. For that reason, we do not have fixed dates for the courses - lessons are organised according to the availabilities of student and teacher.
-
Absolutely. These are private sessions for up to 8 people, and can be conducted in-situ as well as in our studio. In these guided sessions, attendees create their own fragrance from a range of materials provided by us.
For olfactive sessions as corporate team building, numbers and scope are a little different, so please contact us with your request for that service.
